FAQs
Do I need a referral?
No — you can contact us directly. Many families reach out on their own when they have concerns about their child’s development. Referrals are also welcome from GPs, schools, and other professionals, but they are not required to begin support.
Do you provide reports?
Yes. Written reports can be provided for parents, schools, or other professionals when requested. Reports include a clear summary of your child’s strengths, challenges, and practical recommendations for home and school. This can be particularly useful when liaising with teachers or other healthcare providers.
What is your cancellation policy?
We kindly ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. This helps us manage our schedule fairly and offer the slot to another family who may be waiting. We understand that life with children can be unpredictable, so if your child is unwell or something unexpected comes up, please let us know as soon as you can.
Unhappily, late cancellations or missed sessions will still need to be charged, as the time has been set aside for your child.
Can parents be involved in sessions?
Absolutely. Parents are encouraged to be part of every session. We’ll show you strategies and activities that can be built into your daily routines, making it easier for your child to keep practising between visits. Many parents find this involvement helps them feel more confident in supporting their child day to day.
Do sessions take place in a clinic?
No — all sessions are provided through home visits. This allows therapy to take place in your child’s familiar environment, which helps them feel comfortable and secure. It also means that strategies can be integrated more easily into your daily routines, making progress more natural and lasting.
What happens in an OT session?
Sessions are playful, engaging, and tailored to your child’s individual goals. We use everyday activities, toys, movement, and games to make therapy fun and meaningful. Areas we may work on include coordination, handwriting, attention, sensory regulation, emotional regulation, and daily living skills like feeding, dressing, or toileting. Parents are always welcome to be involved so you can continue supporting your child between sessions.
Do you liaise with schools?
Yes. While therapy takes place at home, we know that consistency between home and school makes a big difference. With your consent, we can share recommendations and reports with teachers or SNAs, and provide practical classroom strategies where needed. This team approach ensures your child is supported across all settings.
What are your fees?
Fees vary depending on the type of assessment or therapy session required. Because every child’s needs are different, we’ll provide you with a clear breakdown during your initial call before any sessions are arranged. This ensures transparency and allows you to make the decision that feels right for your family.
How long are sessions?
Therapy sessions usually last between 45–60 minutes, depending on your child’s needs and attention on the day. Some children benefit from shorter, focused bursts of input, while others manage a full hour. We keep sessions flexible to match what works best for your child.
Do you work with children with additional needs?
Yes. We support children with a wide range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD/dyspraxia), ADHD, sensory processing differences, learning difficulties, anxiety, emotional regulation challenges, and developmental delays. Each child is unique, so therapy is always tailored to their strengths, interests, and goals.
What areas do you cover?
We currently provide home visits in Macroom, Co. Cork, and surrounding areas. If you’re unsure whether your location is included, please contact us and we’ll be happy to advise. We try to schedule visits efficiently within each area to make the best use of time and keep travel costs low for families.
